Just posted a picture in the "Historical photographs" section of an L-3 in action in Sicily. Along with an L4 it landed for refueling in a melon patch being used to repair a B-24 (42-40697) that had forced landed after a pre invasion mission on Reggio D'Calabria, Italy. Unfortunately no unit markings on the L-3 or L-4 can be identified, but it can ce assumed that they had just flown east from the USA forces beach head as the area they are pictured in had just been liberated by the Cadadians and British.
However based on the sourse information this does prove L-3s ( or at least one L-3) saw active duty (not a squadron hack) on European soil. We have sold our vacation house in Normandy so naturally rentals have ceased. We will advise on the next adventure in Europe! Thank you to all who have enjoyed the house and the beautiful Normandy countryside and hospitality over the last 13 years.
